While it is very, very atypical for anyone to take a picture during Meeting for Worship, I was moved in the moment to do so yesterday. This First Grade girl had shared a simple and powerful message about personal integrity earlier, and here she is seen listening to a teacher speak about community. For me, it captures a moment that speaks to the power of Meeting for Worship in our school community, underscoring that it is our central experience as a Friends school – where each individual has equal access to the truth, can learn during expectant waiting to listen, reflect, and perhaps share their unique voice as a contributing community member; where a culture of respect, trust, and advocacy is built.
Each Thursday morning, I am also in touch with the spiritual presence of all who have gathered in this simple, sacred space on Sunday and across the centuries. I wish to thank the members of Buckingham Monthly Meeting again for their vision, care, and love, and for holding BFS in the Light.
As we forge ahead after the election, I want to hold up our teachers and their deep regard for our mission and care for the children. It is humbling to witness every day – as it was again this week – how they ALL show up for ALL of the children, all of the members of our community, and one another. I have expressed, heard, and sensed an immovable resolve to work and advance our mission and purpose as a Friends school. As individuals, as a community, and as a country, we can always do better, and we will continue to do our best at BFS to grow good people who can continue to access the revealing truth and meaningfully work with others to make the world a better place for all. Through it all, we have each other.
Respectfully,
Paul
Thank you for sharing a moving photo and message. I sat in that very spot many times and often thought about that post in front of me with those huge cracks, yet standing tall and doing its part to support the building and to protect those inside. I have many wonderful memories at BFS and BMM, connected communities where so many stand up, generation after generation, and do what is needed for our children and their education. Feeling much gratitude!
