I am excited to share two of the latest videos produced by BFS alum Ben Weiner ’03.  Legendary BFS Kindergarten teacher Olwen Jarvis (1985-2000) sent the following to me with links to these videos this week.

“Ben and his brother Aaron were BFS students who were in my Kindergarten classes…years ago it seems!  Ben has been teaching, writing songs and singing. I so enjoy his creativity. I can almost hear (all) children cheerfully singing and laughing over these words and music. There are such positive lessons in the songs. I hope everyone can find a few minutes to listen to the songs. ” Puzzle Pieces ” is so relevant to today’s world situations.”

The Bread song

“The Bread Song” is a new song written and performed by Benjamin Weiner as part of Sparkler Learning’s Us Time. The music video was created by Julia Levy at Sparkler Learning. The song is part of a social and emotional learning unit for young children on identity — who we are! People from all over the world have their own special bread. Learning about bread and sharing it with others is a good way to learn about ourselves and others. Us Time is a social and emotional learning framework for classroom community meetings for young students in preschool and early elementary school. Learn more at playsparkler.org/ustime.

Puzzle Pieces

“Puzzle Pieces” is written and performed by Benjamin Weiner as part of Sparkler Learning’s Us Time and Little Kids, Big Hearts podcast. The music video was illustrated by Julia Levy and at Sparkler Learning and the song was first released in the Little Kids, Big Hearts episode called “Celebrating Our Differences.” The song is part of the unit on discussing race with young children — which deals with identity, similarities and differences, upstanding, race, and racism. Us Time is a framework for classroom community meetings for young students, and Little Kids, Big Hearts is a social and emotional learning podcast for children and families. Thank you, Olwen! Thank you, Ben!

  1. So very happy to see Benjamin’s delightful and clever songs get air time here! Yes, thanks to Olwen Jarvis, for sharing! Benjamin and my son were in the same class at BFS, and they were good friends growing up and remain so today! (And his mother, writer Deborah Heiligman is my best friend.) So very impressed with Benjamin’s success, and happy for him and his family.
